Fun Things to do Before School Starts

Summer is almost over and the kids are probably getting stir crazy looking for something fun to do before they’re forced to stare at brick walls for another nine months. Understandably, they want to get out and use the last bit of their summer freedom doing something fun. Here are a few good ideas to get them outdoors before they paint the dog and break the couch looking for a good time.

Swim at the pool

Nothing says “celebrating summer” quite like swimming in the pool on a hot day. There are so many city pools you can get into for cheap prices. And there’s nothing like a nice relaxing afternoon spent in the water splashing with the tots or on a beach chair reading a book. You and your kids will have so much fun in the sun that by the time you pull into your driveway, every single one of you will be begging for a nap. Some might even be hard to persuade to leave the car as they’ve already begun theirs.

Go to a museum or festivity

There are museums for adults and kids everywhere in the world. When was the last time you visited one of them? Consider visiting one or two drastically different ones in one day—with a lunch break in-between—and you’ll give your kids something to talk about with their new friends when they go back to school.

Do something you’ve never done before

If you’ve done these things already and can’t find the motivation to do them again, find an activity, museum or show that you’ve never been to and go there. Discover something new and exciting together. You’re sure to enjoy the activity just as much as your kids when you do something new together.

Whatever it is you decide to do, make sure it gets them out of the house and interests them. If you don’t, you’ll find yourself renaming your dog white Pomeranian “Spot” to match the red paint blotches on his magnificent coat.
